Guccio Gucci was born in Florence, Italy, in 1881. His father manufactured leather goods and this, as well as the luggage he saw whilst working at the Savoy Hotel in London, would be his inspiration for creating his own company. He founded the brand in 1921 and gave it his family name. Originally a small business selling leather goods in its founder’s home town, the company soon opened stores in Rome and New York. The label launched its first fragrance in 1974 and now sells its clothing, accessories, make up and beauty products across the world.
